Straight Talk: Don't Avoid It

Posted by Atsumori. Category:

Many avoid straight talk, and what happens instead is that rumblings related to the topic leak out all over the place leading to conjecture, untruths, and mixed direction.

I am a fan of transparent, straight talk.

For example, if the goals of a system have not been met, don't try to manipulate to meet those goals, instead use straight talk.  Get the crowd together, define the goals, note the outcome with accuracy and evidence, then talk about what needs to happen.

Straight talk in schools when done with clarity, respect, and a focus on what's best for children leads to the best possible collaborative work.

Murmurings, rumblings, rumors, side talk, silence, and discussion that skirts the true issue creates a less successful wavy path rather than a straight, transparent path to collective, careful work.

Hence, I'm a fan of straight talk.  Bring it on, and bring it on with respect and care, then we'll really be able to make a difference.
